Do you ever feel stuck in life? That no matter how hard you drive forward, you’re not getting where you want to go at the rate you think you should?
Does every day seem like the day before, leaving you wondering when you last did something new and different?
Do you lose energy when it comes to achieving personal goals?
Do you find yourself putting everything else first before caring for yourself?
Do you ever wonder when the time will come when you’re not so busy or when you can just relax and let the cards fall where they may without your involvement?
A Feeling, Not a Fact
I know I do at times, and I imagine if you answered yes to any of these questions, then you know the feeling of being stuck too!
But here’s the good news: Feeling stuck is a feeling, not a fact. When we feel stuck, our first instinct is typically to look outside ourselves for someone or something to blame. However, our lives are our responsibility. While we can’t change other people or events, we can certainly change our perceptions and reactions to them. And surprisingly, when we change the way we look at things, the things themselves somehow seem to change.
So the real question is, how do we change our perspective?
Do the New
Being open to new ideas, activities and people is a great start to getting unstuck and out of our comfort zone. A re-energizing gift I give myself each year—through healthy eating, exercise and lots of relaxation—is a visit to Canyon Ranch health spa resort. This year I was intent on being open to learning new things from the expert speakers who, throughout the week, shared their expertise on all of the normal health-related topics—ranging from how to sleep better to the newest healthy eating tips.
Before I left for Canyon Ranch, I promised myself I would attend lectures or discussions on topics I knew nothing about and hadn’t heard of before, no matter how silly they sounded. And that’s when I stumbled upon Lu Ann Cahn’s class, titled “I Dare I.” “Hmmm,” I thought. “That sounds pretty silly to me.” And so keeping my promise to myself, I joined the group and decided to do my best to be open-minded.
Before I knew it, I was laughing out loud while at the same time being inspired by Lu Ann’s incredible life story and what she did in the course of one year to get unstuck and reboot her life. I was so mesmerized by her determination, bravery and humility that I walked up to her at the end of class and asked her to visit Atlanta to share her story with some very special people: our SignatureWOMEN community. As luck would have it, Lu Ann has sisters in Atlanta, so we arranged for her to come and share what she did over the course of a year to get unstuck and to ultimately change her life.
Lu Ann chronicles 365 daily examples of doing something new to shake up her life in her new book, I Dare Me: How I Rebooted and Recharged My Life by Doing Something New Every Day. The book is a recap of her popular blog, which chronicled an entire year of Lu Ann’s “firsts.”
Please join us on Wednesday, May 13, at 5:00 p.m. to learn how a dose of daring could change your life and leave you feeling unstuck! Please contact your relationship manager or me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to join us and meet Lu Ann.
