Mastering a TRUE 1% Percenter Life

We recently interviewed Kathleen Black on SignatureFD’s podcast, Net Worthwhile. Kathleen is the CEO of Kathleen Black Coaching & Consulting, Inc. and the author of, “The Top 1% Life.” Her book explores the age-old question – how does one have work-life balance?

Especially in the case of business owners, top executives, and other exceedingly busy professionals, building wealth through work – at the forsaking of life – simply becomes, well, a way of life.

Kathleen says, “At the beginning we’re trying to get busy to ensure that we are productive, but then once the tap is turned on, it can consume your entire life.”

Why? Fear. The real question isn’t, “Can I have work-life balance?” It’s, “Would I be ok if the busyness stopped?”

When you’ve anchored your wealth in the dollar signs that are often acquainted with a busy work life, it’s hard for it to feel solid. It’s hard to enjoy. Every phone call is THE phone call you need to take. Every email, THE email you need to respond to. And, eventually, we become so busy that we lose sight of why we’re working so hard in the first place.

NET WORTHWHILE, it’s not just a tagline for SignatureFD. It’s a mindset, a way of life. And, we’ve anchored our advisory firm in it because we believe your wealth is more than dollar signs, conference calls and emails. It’s truly, whatever you want it to be.

Kathleen suggests creating a vision for the year vs. goals. What do you want your life to look like this year? From trips, to health, to family and friends, to growing your portfolio, what’s the vision that makes you truly happy all around. What buckets are there?

Write it down. And, then, stick to it! Be as fiercely protective of your vision as you are about a quiet space for a conference call. You earned this life. Enjoy it.
